Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system via the link at the top of this page

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • By ticking the boxes on your repeat prescription list and handing it in to Ayton Dispensary

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Collecting your prescription

Please allow a MINIMUM OF 3 FULL WORKING DAYS (excluding weekends) before collection either from the Surgery or by prior arrangement to go to Proudfoots at Seamer.

Ayton Dispensary

The dispensary is open on weekdays between 08:30 am and 6:30 pm, please note that our phone lines will not be available between 12:30pm and 1:30pm and from 6:00 pm. The Dispensary is closed on Saturdays.

Please note:  In most cases your medication will be placed into our collection point machine at Ayton Surgery. You will receive a text message code (valid for 4 days) which you then input into the collection point in order to collect your medication - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Free Delivery Service for Housebound Patients

If you normally have your medication dispensed by the surgery we can deliver it to you free of charge if you are housebound. Medication will need to be ordered at least 3 days in advance and colostomy products and dressings will also need to be ordered a minimum of 3 days in advance in order to take advantage of this service.

The deliveries are made on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please ask at the Dispensary for more details.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists may be able to answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription please phone our Dispensary team on 01723 864553 who will direct your query appropriately.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, please book for your review during the month of your Birthday each year in order to avoid delays in receiving your medication. We may ask you to come in for a review at another time in certain circumstances.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
